Guapulo Church in Quito Ecuador. Although it was built beyond the old city's limits, the church in Guapulo is another one of the jewels of architecture and religius arts from the 16th century. In 1587, in the northeast of Quito, in the Guashayacu valley, present days Guapulo, a chapel was built. In this chapel, the first sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin, was established. In this chapel, they appealed to the virgin as Nuestra Señora Guadalupe de Guapulo. In 1593, a seccond chapel was built, and finally, the actual structure appeared in the rebuilding among 1649 and 1696.
