Pemaquid Point Lighthouse at Pemaquid point near New Harbor, Maine, was built in 1827, and the tower was rebuilt in 1835 and again in 1857. The keeper's stone dwelling was also replaced in 1857 by the wood-frame cape which still stands and houses the Fisherman's Museum. The original fourth-order Fresnel lens is still in operation. Pemaquid Point Lighthouse is famous for the striated rock formations on the cliffs below the lighthouse, which resemble ocean waves turned to stone.
