Cuckolds Lighthouse, on the Atlantic coast of Maine, is located on the "Cuckolds" - which according to the 1891 Maine Lighthouse Board "consists of two rocky islets rising about 15 feet above high water in the westerly edge of the channel at Booth Bay."<br />
The station had to be constructed such that it could withstand tremendous forces, and the keepers on this station were often involved in rescuing shipwrecked mariners in spite of the presence of the light.
